Case Histories is in the books
I've just met Jackson Brodie, and I can't wait to read the rest of the series
Several friends recommended I dig into Kate Atkinson’s Jackson Brodie series, and I finally did just that. I had only ever read Atkinson’s one-off book about infinite lives, Life After Life.
She published the first Jackson Brodie novel, Case Histories, in 2004, and it was very engaging. Atkinson has said that she never intended to begin a series of detective fiction when she started writing Case Histories, but Jackson Brodie seems to have appeared of his own volition.
Case Histories probably shouldn’t be high on the list for, let’s say, sensitive people who have girls between 16-19 living in their home. People meet terrible ends and endure multiple forms of abuse. But as with Louise Penny’s books, the redemption and closure make the reading journey worthwhile.
The next Jackson Brodie novel is already in my hands… I can’t wait to see where his story goes.
